Supervisory Board Chairman

Dr. Neal Kassell is the founder and chairman of the US-based Foundation and former Co-Chair of Neurosurgery at the University of Virginia. He has published more than 500 scientific papers and book chapters, and his research has been supported by over $30 million in NIH and industry grants and contracts. A member of numerous medical societies in the United States and abroad, he has served on many standing and ad hoc committees of the National Institutes of Health and in an editorial capacity for a variety of academic journals. In April 2016, he was named to the Blue Ribbon Panel of Vice President Joe Biden’s Cancer Moonshot Initiative. Dr. Kassell is a founder of numerous private ventures including Interax, Inc.; the Virginia Neurological Institute; Multimedia Medical Systems, Inc.; the Neuroclinical Trials Center; the NeuroVenture Fund; and MedSpecialists.net. He has served on a number of corporate and not-for-profit boards, including Eclypsis Corporation; INC Research; the Prostate Cancer Foundation; Insightec, Ltd.; the Expedition Trust Company; Tuesday Evening Concert Series and Virginia National Bank, and is currently a director of the Focused Ultrasound Foundation. He is a shareholder in Insightec, Ltd., where he also served on the board until 2012. Dr. Kassell received his undergraduate and medical education at the University of Pennsylvania.

Professor Chrit Moonen has spent nearly 30 years in the field of focused ultrasound, most recently as professor in the Division of Imaging at the University Medical Center (UMC) in Utrecht, the Netherlands. There, he participated in clinical trials exploring focused ultrasound for bone metastases, breast cancer, and histotripsy in combination with immunotherapy. Under his leadership, UMC Utrecht became the tenth Focused Ultrasound Center of Excellence. Prof. Moonen also serves as Scientific Programs Director at the US-based Focused Ultrasound Foundation.

Jessica Lukens, MBA, joined the US-based Focused Ultrasound Foundation in 2017 and leads its advancement and global programs. She oversees development and communications, stewarding relationships with existing donors, engaging new supporters, and raising awareness of the Foundation’s mission. Jessica also guides the Foundation’s programs and partnerships in key regions around the world, including Asia, the United Kingdom, and the European Union. She serves on the Supervisory Board of the EU Focused Ultrasound Foundation. Jessica gained valuable healthcare development and communications experience through roles with ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and UVA Health. She received a BA from the University of Richmond and an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.

Managing Director / Chairman

With extensive experience in relationship management, philanthropy and strategic collaboration, Pascale Broks brings together researchers, clinicians, industry partners and civil society organisations around innovation in healthcare. In her role within the European Focused Ultrasound Foundation, she focuses on strengthening international partnerships, increasing visibility and realizing sustainable fundraising to accelerate the development of focused ultrasound worldwide. Driven by social impact and connection, she is committed to making innovative treatments with focused ultrasound more quickly accessible to patients. Her strength lies in combining strategic insight, international collaboration and a hands-on approach to realize initiatives that contribute to lasting progress in healthcare.

Ancillary positions: Unpaid board member of Stichting Groot Utrecht, a network organization of companies with more than 80 employees based in Greater Utrecht. Since: 1 March 2024

Managing Director, EU Finance & Administration

Jennifer King joined the US Foundation in 2022 and is currently Managing Director, European Finance & Administration, where she works on leadership and expertise in financial and administrative operations and reporting. Prior to joining the Foundation, Jennifer was the administrator of the UVa Department of Neurosurgery. In that role, she provided strategic, financial, and operational management for the department, served on various quality improvement, compliance, and process improvement task forces, and worked closely with the hospital CFO and other finance leaders on planning and troubleshooting. Prior to her time at UVa, Jennifer worked in various roles at CIGNA HealthCare of Virginia and as an accountant at Ernst & Young. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce and an MBA from the University of Richmond. Jennifer also coaches cross-country for Charlottesville High School.

Development and Data Strategy Manager, UK & EU

Michelle Majorin is Manager of Development and Data Strategy (UK & EU) at the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, where she supports fundraising activities and donor engagement within the UK, EU and US programmes. Since joining the Foundation in 2019, she has been managing data on donors and potential donors, tracking donations and forecasting, and ensures data integrity to support international fundraising efforts.

Sr. Fundraiser / Consultant EU (France)

François Tranquart joined the Foundation in 2026. He has spent 20+ years as Professor of Biophysics in Tours University Hospital before moving to industry for 15+ years. This R&D and clinical development experience covers various therapeutic domains largely dominated by oncology, gynaecology and cardio-vascular disease. He has published more than 200 scientific papers and book chapters covering diagnostic use of contrast media and radionuclides, theragnosis including radioligand therapy, MRgFUS (fibroids, bone mets), and drug delivery using microbubbles. Under his leadership, two products (SonoVue/Lumason, 18F-Flurpiridaz) have been FDA approved.
